Briem started her career acting as an actress in the National Theater Iceland at 9 years old. Briem worked as an actress in Iceland in her youth. Briem was then 16 years old when she relocated to London and was a part of her first production, Lenin In Love in The New End Theater. Briem was accepted into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art when she was 19-years-old. The next three years, she attended the academy, earning a drama degree and an award called the John Barton Prize for Scenic Fight.
